This article examined the prevalence of obesity rates in the United States with respect to the association of body weight with excess mortality rates.  The objective was to estimate deaths associated with underweight, overweight, and obese BMI groups.  Findings were consistent with the increases in life expectancy and declining mortality rates from heart disease.
